As of August 10, 2020, there have been a total of 488 car crashes in Rockingham County so far in 2020 with 8 fatalities. Of those crashes, 137 involved injuries or fatalities. It appears that COVID-19 may have played a part in helping to reduce the number of crashes, since in past years the numbers by early August have been much higher. In 2019, there were a total of 1,088 crashes with 14 fatalities. Those crashes were reported in the following areas:

Interstate 81 — 33 injuries, 3 fatalities
Port Republic Road — 16 injuries, 1 fatality
Rawley Pike — 16 injuries
Valley Pike — 13 injuries, 1 fatality

Additional fatalities in 2019 occurred along Briery Branch Road, Brocks Gap Road, East Side Highway, Fox Mountain Road, Hinton Road, and Spring Creek Road.
